“Embodiment in
curriculum and pedagogy embraces and acknowledges that our minds, bodies, and
spirits are central to the everyday experiences of people” (Henderson et al.,
2015, p. 61).
à Do you think that your teaching practices
have an effect on shaping your students’ bodies, minds, and spirits? If yes
how? If not how would you change them to take into account your students’
holism?
I am a physical education teacher. I think my teaching has a lot of affect on my students bodies and also minds. There is strong connectuion between the mind and the body. i stronly believe in this connection in our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeong! You are a physical education teacher. For people who do not know what PE entails, the 'common' belief is that it is only concerned with physical aspects of education. In light of this stereotypical image of PE, how do you attend to the mental/ psychological aspects of your practice? I hope my question is not too confusing.
DeleteI think it has an effect. I remember that when I was a students, I saw some of my teachers as good models. their way of teaching and dealing with the students change some characters of my personalty. I believe that teachers are ambassadors who should act and behave properly inside and outside their classes.
ReplyDeleteMeshari,
DeleteI totally agree. Teachers are seen as role models and therefore should behave accordingly.
As I mentioned in the previous post, activities are inspirational which help leading to the overall balanced growth— which is sought by the teacher. Some were found passive learners. Thus, I used class activities purposely for them engage spiritually and share their minds and thoughts. Teachers' role is observe and look for their students behaviors such the inability to participate in class. Therefore, Focusing on student-based instruction and intensive teaching practices will give students opportunities to shape their personalities and build their bodies and minds properly.
ReplyDeleteFahd,
DeleteI like your reference to student-centered instruction. If our teaching is guided by a desire to attend to the needs of our students and contribute to their overall wellbeing, then I think that body/ mind connection follows.
